Learners credited with this unit standard, in relation to the New Zealand State sector, are able to:

  • explain the significance of the Official Information Act 1982 and Privacy Act 1993,
  • describe processes for handling requests for public information, and reviews of information disclosure,
  • define the relationship between the Official Information Act and the Privacy Act,
  • outline the Ombudsman Act 1975 and explain obligations under the Archives Act 1957.

  • outline the functions and authority of government agencies that manage Treaty issues.

  • describe the principles of the Treaty and their application to government, law and society today,
  • describe the relevance of the Treaty to the learner's State sector organisation.
