WHAT IS STRUCTURED WORKPLACE LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT?
|
What is workplace learning?Structured workplace learning is a formal way to develop and recognise employees' skills and knowledge. Learning is structured around the unit standards on the National Qualifications Framework, so you have clear benchmarks against which your employees' learning outcomes are measured. As part of setting up a structured learning programme, we can help you to identify 'learning pathways' - the sequences of qualifications that staff can follow to meet your business needs.
More about learning pathways and qualifications
What is workplace assessment?Workplace assessment is about valuing people for what they do in their jobs every day and encouraging them to gain even more experience. It is the final part of the structured workplace learning model. Workplace assessment formally measures and recognises the skills and knowledge of your staff, including: - what they already know and do in their job (their current skills)
- their new learning that they demonstrate in their work.
|
How does assessment happen?Workplace assessment is competency based, so learners are judged on what they can do in the workplace. A workplace assessor (from your agency or an external agency) who is registered with Learning State assesses the evidence a learner has gathered against the unit standards on the National Qualifications Framework. Each standard has a precise statement of what learners need to know and do to achieve that standard. Assessment takes various forms. The assessor might: - observe the learner as they complete a specified task on the job
- question the learner in a face-to-face interview or through a written questionnaire
- review written examples of the learner's work
- review references from the learner's manager or supervisor.
