STATE SECTOR INDUCTION PROGRAMME

Working in the State sector comes with a unique set of responsibilities. It's about delivering excellent services to New Zealanders, while at the same time demonstrating impartiality, trustworthiness and professionalism in everything you do. That's why Learning State has designed the State Sector Induction Programme. It's a complete learning resource designed to build your knowledge of how the State sector works. The State Sector induction Programme covers topics that are relevant to the work you do every day as State sector employees. It comprises five learning modules:
Module 1: Democracy and You - Government and the State SectorThis module introduces you to New Zealand's unique system of government. You'll learn about New Zealand's constitutional arrangements, the different branches of government, the role fo the central government agencies and the protection of human rights. |
Module 2: Te Tiriti o Waitangi - Treaty of WaitangiThis module introduces you to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, the differences between the Māori and English texts, and the historical context of the signing of the Treaty. |
Module 3: For the Record - Handling Information in the State SectorThis module introduces you to the principles of handling information correctly - including an explanation of the main statutes that govern the collection, storage, release and use of official information. |
Module 4: Behind the Screens - Government websites and IntranetsThis module introduces you to government websites and intranets - including the government portal, the use of e-government web guidelines, security requirements and how legislation affects the use of information from government agencies' intranets and websites. |
Module 5: In the Spotlight - Standards of Integrity and ConductThis module introduces you to the unique characteristics of being a State sector employee - in particular, the requirement for State sector employees to uphold certain standards of integrity and conduct. |
